Hello Aidan,

Thanks for reaching out. Anyone is welcome to attend the adult allies portion of the conference. Absolutely. Thank you for reaching out. In terms of whether it is also a trans friendly space, the answer is absolutely. If you visit our website, you will also see a statement about who is included as the target of our work. I quote a bit below:

"Our work is primarily focused on ending violence against anyone who identifies as a girl or young woman. This means a recognition of the ways in which transgender young women experience violence. The high level of violence perpetrated against transgender youth is not reflected in the data that we were able to find, but an acknowledgement of that violence is reflected throughout this website, in particular in the words of advocates and organizers identifying the needs and issues facing young women and in the work of TWISTA, one of our featured groups.

The Taskforce also acknowledges that boys and young men in our society experience violence, and we are committed to partnering with other organizations to end all violence against youth. We encourage you to visit our resource page to find a link to the Something Is Wrong curriculum, focused on violence against youth more broadly. We have focused our work on girls and young women, because we recognize that girls and young women face unique forms of violence, and because this violence is often overlooked in the the general public discourse about young people."

So you are welcome to sign up for the conference if you'd like.

Hello,
I am a fellow survivor who also presents as a white guy in the world. As an ally I understand the importance of women only spaces and would like to respectfully inquire as to the status of this conference: are people on the masculine end of the gender spectrum welcome to attend?
Regardless of the answer to my question above I hope to see that our Transgender sisters (presentation aside and based solely on identification) ARE welcome.
Thank you and I will continue to stand in solidarity.

Better read this. US Court of Appeals decision last week.
http://www.ca1.uscourts.gov/pdf.opinions/10-1764P-01A.pdf

Excerpt: When Glik affirmed that he was recording audio, the officer placed him in handcuffs, arresting him for, inter alia, unlawful audio recording in violation of Massachusetts's wiretap statute. ........................
1. Were Glik's First Amendment Rights Violated?
The First Amendment issue here is, as the parties frame it, fairly narrow: is there a constitutionally protected right to videotape police carrying out their duties in public? Basic First
Amendment principles, along with case law from this and other circuits, answer that question unambiguously in the affirmative.

In Tiawanda's case she was recording what was said TO HER. So, it was not an interception of a communication between other parties, but simple documenting of the public behavior of the police who were communicating WITH HER.

She is gonna win... and she should sue them for millions.

It's a matter of making Chicago, and every other city in America, safer for everyone, male or female, young or old. It's no surprise to the rest of us that the Chicago police are corrupt, but this sort of thing - citizens arrested for filming traffic stops or police harassment of citizens on the street - is happeneing in places other than Chicago and in cases other than sexual assaults. Police have operated this way for a long time with impunity, but now that nearly every American carries a movie camera and a recorder at all times, right there in the cell phone, we're starting to drag them out of their dark closets.

For starters, please tell me that they are now investigating the police officer who assaulted her?

This is typical. Those benefiting from structural power inequities have no incentive to change that structure-- including the prosecuting attorney. Even though Tiawanda Moore won this case, it is not necessarily a broader victory for women: reporting of sexual assaults is already a fraction of the actual number, and the very idea of going to court discourages many women from coming forward. So, imagine the impact of the threat of being -taken- to court... Patriarchy still benefited from this case.
